Is there two big bike races? And it's not fair to the mini riders who rode C class all year to not be able to Ride. Alll races should have the same rules. I hope they make mini class course harder than last year.

Yes, there will be two big bike races. With each class starting from their own row. The mini course is much longer. Sorry, but due to our insurance requirement's "mini-cycles" and "motor-cycles" can't run on the same course at the same time.

The IERA rules place no restrictions on the ability of a rider to use a "mini-cycles" in the C class. The "C" Class is comprised of "All ages and engine displacements." So the rules do no prohibit running "mini-cycles" in the C class right along with adult riders at IERA events.

The AMA Hare Scramble rules, however, specifically provide:

"4. No combination of ATVs, minicycles or motorcycles may
be run at the same time on the same course.

Section 2.3 Off-Road Meets - Rule L(4) - Page 68.

A "mini-cycle" is defined as:

"A two-wheeled motor-powered vehicle with a wheelbase
of 51 inches or less."

Appendix 6.7 - ABBREVIATIONS & GLOSSARY - Page 198.

At a minimum, this would include all 65s.

The KTM 85 (50.79 in +/- .39 in) is a mini cycle (although the "big wheel" is not)
The Kawi 85 (49.7 in) is a mini cycle
The Honda 150 (49.6in) is a minicycle.
The displacement is not relevant, just the wheelbase.

So those races sanctioned by the AMA would prohibit "mini-cycles" from running in the adult race. The New Hartford club has no choice but to enforce these AMA rules.

Hope this helps - Eric Neu, IERA Secretary
